Artist Spotlight: SPRINTS

Four band members pose in an industrial yard with corrugated metal walls, scrap metal, and tires. The central figure, a woman with red hair wearing sunglasses, a leather jacket, and a black dress, stands at the front. The other members are dressed in dar

Dublin four-piece SPRINTS, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Karla Chubb, bassist Sam McCann, drummer Jack Callan and guitarist Zac Stephenson, make their return to Glasgow this November. Bringing their electric, heavy-hitting show to SWG3. Ahead of this we caught up with the band...

Your new album ‘All That Is Over’ releases at the end of September, the two most recent singles shared off this ‘Rage’ and ‘Beg’ dropped a couple weeks ago. Could you give us an explanation to the meaning behind both?

The album as a whole kind of bookends the end chapters and starting chapters of SPRINTS. We went through a lot of change - lineups, personal lives, the world - since the debut. All That Is Over marks the end of that and the start of something new.

Beg and Rage are both songs aimed at the disillusionment with the world, how quickly we are to criticise and point the finger at others rather than try cause real actionable change.

Do you have favourite lyric from the new album?

“This writing is savagery, the brutal parts of me, unspooling before drawing blood, you draw a smile and I draw an effigy”

It’s off the penultimate track, Coming Alive.

You’ve had a huge Summer so far this year including an incredible Glastonbury set and supporting Fontaines D.C. across Europe - how has life on the road been for you all?

Maybe there’s something deeply wrong with us but we love tour. It’s amazing to get to play to so many new people and see some amazing places. It’s been exhausting and exhilarating. Sometimes the constant chaos is what makes you miss and crave home so you enjoy it much more when you’re back.

What’s the best gig Sprints have played to date?

‌Obivously all our Scotland shows are a big highlight - Glasgow and Edinburgh have always been good to us. Except the Pizza Crunch.

An obvious stand out is Glasto this year though - first televised slot, surprise guest Kate Nash. It was a big moment.

We’re buzzing to have you back in Glasgow this November, you’ve had some pretty iconic gigs here already - what can we expect from this one?

Noise, theatrics, sweat and a lot of fun. We’re excited to bring this album and it’s world alive. We’ve been working hard and touring a lot since our last show in Glasgow so we’re excited to show how we’ve grown!
