When the Sex Pistols fell apart in the wake of their first American tour in early 1978, lead singer Johnny Rotten opted to turn his back on the group's legacy and approach, reclaiming his given name, John Lydon, and forming a more experimental and stylistically innovative group, Public Image Ltd. While Lydon's new project attracted plentiful attention from the press, the instrumental core of the Sex Pistols, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook, didn't get nearly as much press for their next project. But their group the Professionals eventually earned a loyal following for their passionate and powerful take on British punk, with fans still supporting them in the 21st century.
