After a triumphant reformation in 2012 that resulted in their acclaimed ‘Dark Matter/Dark Energy’ album, The Membranes returned to the studio with their 29 piece choir to work on their 2019 planned follow up of dark, brooding, epic post punk.

The Membranes

One of the key underground bands in the UK in the 80s, The Membranes powerful bass driven, post punk trip has been an influence on scenes as diverse as @Grind-core (Napalm Death credit them as starting the scene with their Death To Trad Rock EP), shoe gazing - My Bloody Valentine used to support them, the UK 80s underground of @BigFlame, Bogshed, A Witness etc and American bands like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jnr, Mercury Rev and Big Black who all noted the bands influence with Steve Albini's first recording work outside his own being Membranes 1987 Kiss Ass Godhead.

Dark Matter/Dark Energy is the band's best received and best selling release in their history. A concept album about the universe sparked by a meeting between Membranes frontman John Robb and the head of the CERN project sparked a dark and tumultuous work.

The band's revival has seen many festivals and support tours with The Sisters Of Mercy, Killing Joke, the Stranglers, Sleaford Mods, Therapy, The Undertones, My Bloody Valentine etc and a remix of the whole of the Dark Matter/Dark Energy album provided by several fellow travelers who said they loved the album from Mark Lanegan to Einsturzende Neubauten to Therapy to Clint Mansell to Youth from Killing Joke.
