With her new EP, Rachel Chinouriri thinks she might have a personal gamechanger on her hands. Digging back into her musical roots, Better Of Without is a story of heartbreak, but also of acceptance, knowing exactly who you are and what you want. “Over the four or five years I've been in the industry, I've definitely wandered away from my indie roots, trying to fit in or be cooler or more experimental,” she says. “But then I was just kind of like, indie is what I love. Why don't I just go back?” Chinouriri has spent a long time building herself into the woman she wants to be. Growing up in a household where acapella and mainstream pop introduced her to the capabilities of the voice, she discovered Daughter and Coldplay as a teenager, opening up a world of emotional, layered songwriting. She began writing for herself, and at 16, applied to Brit School, putting her fate in their hands.
