Artist Spotlight | The New Cut

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | THE NEW CUT

With new music released just this month, we caught up with The New Cut to find out what fans can expect from their upcoming show at McChuills...

Release this month, how does your new EP Sleepers, Mourners reflect where you are musically right now, and what do you hope fans connect with when they listen?
We can’t wait to play there! Some of us have never even been to Scotland, let alone played in Glasgow so to be able to travel all that way to play our music is a real privilege for the band, and one we’re really looking forward to!

There is no objective good or bad when it comes to music but, despite our aloof and mysterious persona (right?), we really care about our craft and are working hard to make our show as engaging as possible. For someone on the other side of the country to offer us their time and attention one evening, is something we want to greet with hard work and an excellent performance.

Are there any artists who inspire your music/songwriting? Who and why?
We all take different inspiration from many different places. I think the EP has elements of 80’s post-punk of Wire, The Monochrome Set, Talking Heads, The Fall - but there's also touches of bands like Slint, Pile and Protomatyr.

Do you have a favourite track(s) at the moment?
We are all listening to quite different music at the moment. I know Morgan, the drummer, has had Sorry's Cosplay album on repeat. He's also really into Radio Free Alice and is very excited for what's to come from them. Flick, the guitarist, has been listening to Wilson Williams’ ‘I like being in love with you’. Henry, the singer, has been listening to a lot of Elvis Costello - ‘Hand in Hand’ is one of his favourite tracks at the moment. Rachel, the bassist, is listening to Lime Garden’s ‘Maybe Not Tonight’ which will be in their new album under the same name. We are all very excited for that to come out!

How is the rest of 2026 looking for you? Any exciting plans you can tell us about?

Apart from our first UK tour, we have our first ever show in Paris at Supersonic festival. We are very grateful to them for giving us this opportunity. We’ve only played outside of the UK once before so we are all really excited.

Creatively, I think we’re starting to form a stronger rapport with each other and we are all really excited about getting on with our next project.
