What does home mean when you’ve spent so much of your life somewhere else?
For Rodrigo y Gabriela, it’s a question they’ve had plenty of time to consider.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero set off in their twenties and found themselves busking on the streets of Dublin. It was there that the foundations of their extraordinary musical partnership were made, one that would eventually take them from Irish street corners to stages around the world. More than twenty years on, they’re Grammy winners and one of the most distinctive acoustic guitar duos in the world, still making two guitars sound like something far bigger.
Their first album in three years, OurHome returns to the sound that made Rodrigo y Gabriela so unique: two acoustic guitars played with astonishing physicality, where rhythm and melody become entirely their own.
But something is different this time.
For the first time in their career, they’ve introduced a vocal element.
After more than two decades of communicating through music without words, OurHome opens a new dimension in their sound. At its heart is the idea of home, not necessarily as a place but as a feeling. For Rodrigo y Gabriela, home has come to mean feeling grounded within yourself. After leaving Mexico, making a life in Ireland and spending years travelling the world, home is now something they carry with them.
But to truly understand Rodrigo y Gabriela you need to see them live and luckily, you could catch them when they visit O2 Academy Glasgow on 17th March 2027.
Two acoustic guitars become an entire world of sound. Their intensely physical playing turns rhythm into percussion and melody into conversation. It’s powerful, unpredictable and almost impossible to believe its being created by just two people on stage. Add vocals to the mix, and it promises to be a performance not to miss.
Whether you’ve followed them for years or are discovering them for the first time, this is your chance to experience one of the most captivating live acts around and hear OurHome brought to life.
