VILLANELLE - Gene Gallagher (vocals, guitar), Ben Taylor (guitar), and Jack Schiavo (bass) - will release new single ‘Measly Means’ on November 12. Building anticipation for their debut EP due next year, the track captures the band’s signature mix of grunge dynamics, raw power, and swaggering attitude - a sound that has already earned them critical acclaim for their debut single ‘Hinge’.

‘Measly Means’ expands on the intensity and alt-rock sonic touchpoints of ‘Hinge’. It’s a fierce, hook-driven statement: distorted riffs, basslines that rumble low and heavy, while Gene’s laconic drawl spits equal measures of nihilism and nonchalance. The result is a track that feels both immediate and defiant.

Gene says, “‘Measly Means’ we laboured over for ages. At first it sounded too light and lovey, but when Ben added the bends and sustains that made it feel like Smashing Pumpkins I was like, that’s it. Like ‘Hinge’ I wrote the lyrics when I was about fourteen. It’s about being hungover. It’s a bit of a theme.”

‘Measly Means’ and ‘Hinge’ will both feature on the band’s eagerly anticipated debut EP which will follow in 2026 and was produced by James Neville during sessions at Teeth Studios, near Croydon.

VILLANELLE recently played student venues across the country on the Punchbag University Tour with fellow risers Florentenes, Bino Blames and Die Twice. December sees them embarking upon The Magical Mallard Migration Tour, their own UK headline underplay run. VILLANELLE will then start 2026 with intent by hitting the road as special guests to Miles Kane on his UK tour.
