23 year old rising star John Newman whose critically acclaimed debut album ”Tribute”, released this week and vying for the number 1 spot on the album chart, has announced a major UK tour for January/February 2014. The tour follows hot on the heels of Newman’s recent triumphant homecoming show in Settle and his sold-out UK tour which kicks off at the end of this month. John and full band will be bringing the “Tribute” album to life from January 27.
“Tribute” features one of the songs of the year and massive Global smash “Love Me Again”, (no. 1 in 16 countries), and equally rousing follow-up “Cheating”. Co-produced by Newman and Ant Whiting, (M.I.A., Rizzle Kicks), the album confirms John’s class as a songwriter, peerless power as a vocalist and offers conclusive proof that the UK has a singular new talent in its midst. “Love Me Again” which has achieved Gold Status in the UK for sales in excess of 500,000, has hit the No1 spot on iTunes in a staggering 16 countries across the globe and follows John’s previous anthem and chart-topper “Feel The Love”, which he co-wrote and fronted with Rudimental.
Fans of Rudimental have already borne witness to the power of John Newman live when he wowed audiences across the country as both special guest, and featured singer, on the band’s sell-out UK tour earlier this year. Newman also wrote and was featured vocalist on Rudimental’s follow up hit “Not Giving In”.
Hailing from Settle in the Yorkshire Dales, and possessing a voice that has been compared to some of the soul greats, Newman began playing guitar and writing his own songs aged just 14 and soon learned how to record and produce himself, making his own house tracks and DJing. A few years later and all the influences start to stack up to form the basis of John’s sound. Think the pure soul and groove of early Stax and Motown, add a dash of James Brown and Prince, a smattering of Black Keys, and mix it all together with a bit of Dangermouse. It’s all in there, it’s all great, but what really hits you is the voice. That Voice.
This collection of eleven self-penned songs illustrates that behind that amazing voice lies a rare and exciting artist who is ready to claim his place at the top table.
