Terry McDermott is a singer, songwriter and writer from Aberdeen,Scotland currently residing in New Orleans, LA. Formerly of Geffen recording artists Driveblind, Lotus Crush and NBC ‘The Voice’ Season 3 Runner-Up.

"Shaggy Scottish rocker Terry McDermott made his mark on Season 3 of "The Voice" belting out hairy Camaro classics from the Great American '70s/'80sRock Songbook (Journey, Boston, Foreigner, et al). But his new original track, "Pictures," evokes the mid-2000s Britrock of bands like Travis, Embrace, Starsailor, and of course his own former Geffen group, Driveblind. It's very British, and it's bloody good.Does this mean an album of modern McDermott music is on the way? Let's hope so. A guy with a voice like this needs to get in the studio, and back on my TV, as soon as possible." Lindsey Parker | Reality Rocks | Yahoo! Music

“Pictures,”...another perfect example of his effortless vocals and talent as a songwriter. Rachel McRady | Wetpaint

“You’ve got this clean, really pristine, beautiful voice" Adam Levine

“You definitely have a great radio quality to your voice where you sound like the kind of voice that can actually sing anything.” Christina Aguilera

“You sound like the real thing...I think you are the real thing!” Cee Lo Green

"Great future for you!” Peter Frampton

"Musical perfection" Blake Shelton

On February 20, 2013, McDermott flew to Los Angeles to write songs with Todd Burman, an Australian musician with whom he had toured. By that evening, they had completed “Pictures” and recorded a rough version.

The next day, they gave fans a sneak preview by uploading the song to SoundCloud. To their surprise, “Pictures” received 26,000 hits that day. “Thatgave us an indication that we were very much on the right track,” McDermott said.

Moving quickly, McDermott and Burman recorded a more polished “Pictures.” It was mastered by the morning of February 25; by that evening, the onlinedistributor TuneCore had serviced the song to iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other digital retailers.

And that’s when the real fun began.

By the time McDermott went to sleep, “Pictures” already was climbing the iTunes rock chart. The next morning, it was at No. 25. Three hours later,“Pictures” hit No. 1 — less than a week after it was written, much less recorded and mastered.

All this was accomplished without the backing of a record label. “If you’ve got the tools at your disposal, then why not do the job? If you’ve gotan audience, then you can reach them," McDermott said.

Since “Pictures” has taken off, he’s received congratulatory messages from “Voice” staffers, as well as Shelton, his coach. (Excerpt from articleby Keith Spera, NOLA.com |The Times-Picayune)

McDermott started as a singer in the Aberdeen-based band, Driveblind, founded originally as a collaboration and two-piece singer-songwriter partnershipbetween McDermott on vocals and Nick Tyler on lead guitar. After the two recorded a number of songs released on cassette, members were added, namely Cameron Taylor (rhythm guitar), Jack Morrice (bass guitar), Dave Nicholson (keyboards) and Dave McKay (drums). After quickly establishing themselves in the local Aberdeen music scene, they traveled to New York and Los Angeles to perform shows in spring 2003. They eventually based themselves in the latter that summer, after being signed to A&M Records. President of A&M,Ron Fair, became the head of Geffen Records soon after, taking Driveblind with him to the label.

Driveblind released a self-titled debut album 'Driveblind' on October 24, 2006, via Geffen Records. The band toured extensively throughout the USsupporting and performing with acts such as Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, Candlebox, Whitestarr, Nikka Costa, Matisyahu, The Bravery, Hot Hot Heat, The Charlatans UK and English band The Thieves. An EP, entitled The ‘Future You Were Promised’ with allnew material followed in 2008.

After things fell through with Driveblind, McDermott left Los Angeles for New Orleans where he settled with his wife, Malyn, and son, Liam. In 2009,he formed yet another rock and alternative pop band called Lotus Crush with Candlebox members Peter Klett and Scott Mercado (who met McDermott when Driveblind supported Candlebox in 2006), MIGGS member John Luzzi, and Second Coming bassist, Johnny Bacolas.Based in Seattle, Lotus Crush released its debut album 'Half Light Morning' with Fontana on March 3, 2011, appearing at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas the following month.

McDermott has also been part of a formation called Northsouth with Afghan Whigs guitarist Dave Rosser. He takes part in vocals, guitar and production.
