To celebrate an incredible start to the year and to say thank you to her supporters, Laura Mvula announces her first ever regional headline tour.
Having already sold-out her first headline show at the Tabernacle on 4th March in just 2 days, it seems Laura is really becoming an artists’ artist with both Paloma Faith and Jessie Ware inviting her to join them on their UK tours this year.
Since announcing the release of her debut EP ‘She’ back in November, Laura has been picking up critical acclaim and support from some of the biggest tastemakers out there.
The video for Laura’s new single ‘Green Garden’, which is due to be released 24th February, reached over 179k views on VEVO in a week. Laura’s debut album ‘Sing To The Moon’ will be released on 4th March.
Described as “The voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others.
A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and formal music.
Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. Now, with some incredible live performances and apraised EP under her belt, 2013 looks set to be an incredible year for her. Laura was nominated for the 2013 BRITs Critics‘ Choice award and ranked highly in fourth place for the BBC Sound of 2013.
As one of the most exciting new musical talents to come out of the UK, this young lady deserves every bit of attention that she gets. As Clash magazine say, “Beautiful invoice and soul, lift your eyes skyward and watch this girl soar”.
